Feb 27, 2026 | 5:42 PM

A man has been arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm for an incident alleged to have taken place Feb. 3, according to Red Deer RCMP.

Mounties say they responded to a call of an assault involving a firearm at 1:25 p.m. that day, on the Gaetz Avenue Service Road.

Upon arrival, a victim stated they’d been shot at close range with an airsoft gun. The victim told police they did not know the suspect, and police are saying the incident is believed to be random in nature.

The victim required medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

The arrest happened the following day, police add.

Jaydyn Lovelace, a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Discharge airgun with intent to wound
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Forgery
  • Fail to comply with a release order
  • Possess identity document
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm

Lovelace was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear on Mar. 4, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

Red Deer RCMP remind the public that replica firearms, including airsoft, pellet, BB, or toy guns designed to resemble real firearms, may result in seizure, criminal charges, or other enforcement action depending on the circumstances. Public awareness and early education are key to preventing tragic outcomes, they say.
