Updated: RCMP report several collisions on QEII between Red Deer and Olds, advise of treacherous conditions

UPDATE: Feb. 17, 5:10 p.m.

According to 511 Alberta, the northbound QEII at Township Road 442, near Ponoka, there is a multi-vehicle MVC. Expect a lane closure and significant delays.

Further north, the northbound QEII near the junction with Highway 616, west of Millet, there’s an MVC. One lane remains open for northbound traffic. Expect significant delays.

Northbound QEII north of Township Road 482, northwest of Millet – OPEN with single lane travel. Drive with caution and expect delays.

UPDATE: Feb. 17, 2:15 p.m.

Didsbury RCMP are advising motorists that driving conditions on the QE11 are very poor.

Currently, Mounties say there is a collision in the southbound lanes, just south of Highway 582. According to police, this is causing major issues, as other vehicles are colliding with this initial collision.

No injuries have been reported. RCMP note the southbound lanes are not passable and travel is not recommended.

Also, according to 511 Alberta, Highway 2A between Township Road 304 and Township Road 310, southeast of Didsbury is also closed due to MVC. Drivers will need to use an alternate route.

Elsewhere, according to 511 Alberta, there is a multi-vehicle MVC in the northbound lanes of the QEII at Township Road 442, near Ponoka. Motorists can expect a lane closure and significant delays.

UPDATE: Feb. 17, 1:30 p.m.

The Alberta RCMP have issued a tow ban for the QE II from Edmonton to just north of Red Deer.

Mounties say blowing and drifting snow is causing reduced visibility and dangerous driving conditions that make tow operations too dangerous. Police are responding to several minor collisions in the area.

RCMP are asking drivers to please avoid travel until conditions improve.

According to 511 Alberta, there are several motor vehicle collisions in that area, and police are urging motorists to drive with caution and allow extra time for travel.

The advisory is for both directions from Highway 27 to 50 Avenue. Drivers should be prepared to stop and expect traffic delays.
