UPDATED (2:20 p.m.)

RCMP say a heavy police presence in Red Deer’s Fairview area is over.

Red Deer RCMP advised Wednesday morning that there was a heavy police presence in the area of Fairview, as well as in Gasoline Alley which is 10 minutes away south on Taylor Drive.

According to police, Koinonia Christian School and Fairview Elementary schools were on hold and secure.

“On Feb. 4, 2026, at approximately 8:07 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a disturbance in progress at a residence in the Fairview neighbourhood,” a release states.

“Police responded immediately, however the suspect had fled the residence. As the situation was unfolding, police asked schools in the area to enter a hold and secure as a precautionary measure.”

The suspect was believed to have fled to the Gasoline Alley area, and police presence was enhanced, Mounties explain.

Police have identified the suspect and continue to investigate this incident. There is no risk to the public, they say.
