An Innisfail man accused of drug trafficking has been sentenced to time served.

David Samuel Reid, 43, was sentenced to 15 months and given a firearm prohibition on Sept. 18, 2025, but was also given credit for 15 months, leaving him with no time left to serve as of that date.

He was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice after pleading guilty to one count of possession of a loaded/prohibited or restricted firearm.

Reid was previously scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of Justice on Jan. 27, 2026.

It was on June 25, 2024, when Innisfail RCMP, with assistance from the Crime Reduction Units for Red Deer and Central Alberta detachments, were conducting surveillance on an individual they described as a known drug trafficker and repeat offender.

Mounties allege the suspect was observed driving a vehicle while having a suspended license.

Police say the suspect was arrested and a search turned up the following:

  • $3000 cash;
  • Methamphetamine;
  • Oxycodone;
  • Cocaine;
  • Psilocybin.

RCMP alleged the suspect was driving the vehicle while impaired by drugs, and subsequently failed an examination.

After the arrest, RCMP obtained a search warrant for the hotel where the suspect was residing. Mounties say the search resulted in another seizure that allegedly included a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, hundreds of rounds of ammo, and other drug trafficking-related items. Police noted the suspect has a lifetime firearms prohibition.

David Samuel Reid was originally charged with the following:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited;
  • Possession of ammunition while prohibited;
  • Possession of a firearm without holding a licence;
  • Offences under the traffic safety act (x4).
