Red Deer City Hall to illuminate yellow for Int’l Holocaust Remembrance Day
Jan 27, 2026 | 10:02 AM
Red Deer City Hall will light up yellow on the evening of January 27 to mark 81 years since the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated.
The anniversary is the basis for what’s known as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Among Canada’s connections to the Holocaust, it was in April 1945 when Canadian forces liberated 900 Dutch Jews from the Westerbork Transit Camp in the Netherlands.
Close to 40,000 Holocaust survivors eventually resettled in Canada.
