Gull Lake Regional Trail to take shape in 2026

The Gull Lake Regional Trail, a 14-kilometre long pathway connecting communities and transforming recreation around one of the region’s most prominent bodies of water, will take shape in 2026.

The trail was approved as part of a five-year recreation capital plan by Lacombe County, and it will be built in three phases.

“This trail is more than just a recreational project—it’s about creating connections,” said Bill Cade, Lacombe County’s Director of Operations. “It will link communities, provide safe and scenic routes for residents and visitors, and enhance the overall quality of life in Lacombe County.”

• Phase 1 (Spring 2026): Construction begins on key sections that provide immediate connectivity between major access points.

• Phase 2 (2027): Expansion to link additional subdivisions and recreational areas.

• Phase 3 (2028*): Completion of the full trail loop, ensuring seamless access for residents and visitors.

Once complete, the trail will connect Bentley and Sandy Point on the west with Alberta Parks, Ebeling Subdivision, and the Summer Village of Gull Lake to the south, and extend to McLaurin, New Saratoga, and Willsons Beach on the east.

“The Summer Village of Gull Lake is thrilled to be part of this initiative,” said Tim DeVries, Public Works Manager for the Summer Village of Gull Lake. “The new trail will give residents and visitors an incredible way to experience the beauty of our lake while promoting active, healthy lifestyles.”

The Gull Lake Regional Trail will:

• Offer a scenic route for walking, cycling, and outdoor activities.

• Foster community connection by linking neighbourhoods and recreational destinations.

• Attract visitors and boost local tourism.

• Promote health and wellness through active lifestyles.
