Red Deer set a new record high temperature on Jan. 14.

On Wednesday, Red Deer got up to 9.8 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 9.3 degrees set in 2008. Records in the area have been kept since 1904, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

This is the third time since November that Red Deer has set a record high.

A new record was set on Dec. 15, hitting 11.8, up from the previous record of 11.7, set in 1962.

And on Nov. 13, a new record of 16.8 degrees was set, beating the previous high of 15.0 degrees from 1946.

As for Jan. 14, 2026, it was balmy across the province of Alberta.

Rocky Mountain House smashed its old record high of 12.2 degrees from 1968, hitting 16.3.

Elsewhere, Bow Island got up to 16.7, up from 10.6 in 2006; Calgary reached 16.9, up from 11.2 in 2004; Cardston was warm at 17.3, up from 2019’s 14.9; it was even warmer in Claresholm where it got to 19.5, up from 2008’s 13.8; and Edson hit 14.3, up from 10.2 in 2025.

The oldest record broken was from 1931, and that was in Medicine Hat, where it reached 14.4 degrees — up from the old record of 9.4.

Three other places — Edmonton, Brooks, and Lethbridge — broke records from 1942.
