RDP Athletics recap: Jan. 9-11

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic volleyball and Queens hockey teams downed the SAIT Trojans. The RDP basketball teams dropped their games to the Trojans. The RDP Kings hockey team swept the weekend series against the Briercrest College Clippers on the road.

Here is a summary of the recent results:

Volleyball

Queens vs. Trojans | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, January 9

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens volleyball team defeated the SAIT Trojans in three sets (25-20, 26-24 and 25-19).

Raya Roesler, an RDP Practical Nurse student, recorded nine kills (0.571), two digs and two blocks.

Queens at Trojans | Saturday, January 10

The second-place RDP Queens (8-2) earned a five-set victory over the third-seed Trojans (6-5) in Calgary (25-19, 33-31, 23-25, 27-29 and 15-7).

Nadia McKeage led the Queens offensively, contributing 12 kills, seven digs, three aces, one assist and one block.

Kings vs. Trojans | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, January 9

The Kings volleyball team defeated the SAIT Trojans in five sets at home (25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 25-18 and 15-12).

Red Deer’s Colby Nemeth had a match-high 28 kills (0.478), earning the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.

Kings at Trojans | Saturday, January 10

The second-seed RDP Kings (8-2) swept the seventh-place Trojans (2-9) on the road. Statistics were not available from this match.

Basketball

Queens at SAIT | Friday, January 9

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens basketball team lost 78-51 to the SAIT Trojans in Calgary. Jorgia Hicks led RDP with 13 points. Kira Main added 10.

Queens vs. SAIT | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, January 10

The seventh-seed Queens (3-9) dropped an 85-36 decision to the second-place Trojans (6-6) at home.

Main accumulated 13 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals for the RDP Queens.

Kings at SAIT | Friday, January 9

The Trojans got by the Kings 98-42. Noah Simon led RDP with 11 points, going five-for-seven from the field.

Kings vs. SAIT | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, January 10

The seventh-seed Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball team (1-11) was downed 96-58 by the first-place SAIT Trojans (12-0).

Samuel Idemudia recorded 12 points for the Kings.

Hockey

Queens at Trojans | Saturday, January 10

The second-place RDP Queens (12-4) earned a 2-1 decision over the fourth-seed SAIT Trojans (4-11) in Calgary.

Tasha Barsby and Gabriella Meier scored for the Queens. Elizabeth Campbell made 19 saves in the Queens’ net (0.950).

Kings at Briercrest College | Friday, January 9

The RDP Kings hockey team dropped the Briercrest College Clippers 7-4 in Saskatchewan. Holden Knights scored twice for RDP.

Nolan Doell, Alex Bernauer, Nathan De Graves, Ryland McNinch and Mason Bueckert added singles. Evan Fradette made 37 saves in the Kings’ net.

Kings at Briercrest College | Saturday, January 10

The first-place Kings (13-1) earned a 3-2 win over the third-seed Clippers (5-9). Holden Knights, Nolan Doell and Tanner Sklaruk scored for the Kings.

Ethan Farrow, an RDP Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student, turned aside 20 of the Clippers’ shots.
