Red Deer’s outdoor rinks returning for another season

Dec 12, 2025 | 4:15 PM

City of Red Deer officials have announced that 17 outdoor rinks across the community are now open.

After weeks of work flooding and prepping the ice, officials say the recent cold snap has helped ensure some of Red Deer’s outdoor surfaces are ready to welcome skaters for the season.

This weekend, the following 17 outdoor rink locations will open:

  • Bower (85 Boyce St)
  • Clearview Meadows (93 Cornett Dr)
  • Deer Park Estates (Holy Family School)
  • Eastview (Joseph Welsh Elementary School)
  • Grandview (Escuela Vista Grande School)
  • Highland Green (65 Halladay Ave)
  • Lancaster (St. Francis of Assisi School)
  • Lonsdale (Mattie McCullough School)
  • McLean Park (91 McLean St)
  • Morrisroe West (Annie L. Gaetz School)
  • Mountview (Mountview Elementary School)
  • Normandeau (Normandeau School)
  • Oriole Park (Oriole Park School)
  • Pines 141 (Pamely Ave)
  • Riverside Meadows (6021 57 Ave)
  • Rosedale Estates (2 Roland St)
  • West Park (West Park Elementary School)

The city says hockey nets will be delivered and lighting systems activated at all locations listed above as of Friday, Dec. 12, 2025. The city would like to remind skaters that the use of helmets is recommended at all times. Although these rinks will be open, officials say skaters should use caution as some of the edges remain thin and rough due to the warm temperatures seen this season.

Meanwhile, Parks crews continue to prepare the remaining outdoor rinks and plan to add more opened rinks to the list next week, weather permitting. The natural ice surface at Bower Ponds and the Ice Oval at Setters Place remain closed at this time, but are anticipated to open in the coming days.
