Lacombe Police Service launches Safe Exchange Zone
The Lacombe Police Service (LPS) has announced the establishment of a Safe Exchange Zone outside the Lacombe Police Service Station to support safer in-person exchanges between members of the public.
Officials say the space is intended for child custody exchanges, peer-to-peer marketplace transactions (such as Kijiji, Facebook Marketplace, and online buy/sell groups), or any situation where individuals feel more comfortable completing a transaction or exchange in a monitored and public location.
The Safe Exchange Zone is located in the front public parking lot at the Lacombe Police Service Station at 5301 Wolf Creek Drive. LPS says the location is under continuous video surveillance, well lit, and accessible 24 hours a day.
Officials say this initiative reflects LPS’ ongoing focus on community engagement, crime prevention, and supporting positive interactions between citizens. By providing a neutral, visible, and monitored space for exchanges, LPS hopes to reduce the risk of fraud, theft, and interpersonal conflict while giving the public a safe option that encourages personal security and peace of mind.
