The Nutcracker Ballet returns to RDP

Nov 26, 2025 | 10:38 AM

The Nutcracker Ballet is set to return to Red Deer Polytechnic in December.

Those hoping to catch a show during the holiday season will get the opportunity with five different performances available at the main stage theatre in the Arts Centre on campus.

On Friday, December 12, the Nutcracker Ballet is scheduled for 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., followed by performances at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 13. The final performance will take place on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m.

“We are delighted to once again welcome audiences to experience the magic of The Nutcracker and uphold the cherished holiday tradition at RDP,” said Trent Rix, Director of Ancillary and Sport Services, Red Deer Polytechnic. “This timeless ballet is brought to life through the remarkable collaboration of RDP staff members, talented youth dancers and dedicated community members, who all help spread the joy and festive spirit across communities.”

Organizers say audiences will experience the magic of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker through his timeless score, and central Alberta’s talented youth dancers will bring to life the battle between mice and toy soldiers.

The ballet is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker, and this year’s production reflects the dedication and passion of the dance troupe of 84 individuals, who have rehearsed tirelessly under the expert guidance of Tania Strader.
