The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens are headed to the bronze medal game at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship.

They defeated the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics 1-0 on Friday at Setters Place in Red Deer to advance to the bronze medal game on Saturday at noon.

Forward Sein Furuyama was the lone goal scorer for the Queens, which was her second goal of the tournament. She netted the unassisted goal early in the second half to put her team on top.

Meanwhile, Queens goalkeeper Jessica Stewart secured the shutout with six saves.

Red Deer will now face the winner of the other bronze semi-final matchup between the St. Clair Saints and the VIU Mariners in the bronze medal game.

After the bronze match, the gold medal game is set for 3 p.m. between the two Quebec-based teams, Elans de Garneau and the Aigles d’Ahuntsic.

Red Deer, who was the host team for the championship, lost in the quarter-finals on the first day of the tournament on Wednesday against the Vancouver Island University Mariners.

However, they bounced back on Thursday with a 5-0 victory over the Brandon Bobcats in the bronze quarter-finals to advance to Friday’s match.

The Queens finished the 2025 campaign in second place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) south division standings with a 10-4-1 record.

And in the ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship, the Queens won the bronze medal after defeating the SAIT Trojans 2-1 in Lethbridge on Oct. 26.
