Podcast: Agri-Trade returns for 41st year with spirits high among producers

The 41st annual Agri-Trade is back at Red Deer’s Westerner Park from Nov. 5-7, and there’ll truly be something there for everyone.

The park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Wednesday to Friday, and tickets can be purchased here, at a discounted rate until Nov. 4.

“This show is the very best in agriculture equipment, products and services. If you are in agriculture, it’s the place to be, with product launches, and the experts you’re learning from,” says Krissy Fiddler, show manager.

“If you’re not in the agriculture world and still want to learn about it, we’ve got entertainment with Billy Bob’s Bar, we have a kids area, with face painting and games. It’s really a lot of camaraderie and a celebration of agriculture.”

Agri-Trade also has a lot of hands-on opportunities as far as equipment, like massive combines, and there’s a ton of international representation from places like Nigeria, Turkiye, Mongolia, Mexico, Germany and Northern Ireland.

There will also be the Ag Innovations competition which takes place at 3 p.m. on Thursday the 6th in the Centrium. A list of finalists can be viewed here.

Another cool part of the competition is show attendees get to vote for a winner, with $25,000 on the line.

Fiddler was asked about the feelings of farmers and producers this year, and if the dry late-summer weather has had any impact on the trade show.

“Our tagline for the show is ‘Right show, right time, right location.’ ‘Right show’ and ‘Right time’ mean it’s right after harvest, so producers know what they have and they are excited harvest is over. They haven’t seen their neigbours and Agri-Trade is an area they can socialize, kick tires and catch up,” Fiddler explains.

“‘Right location’ means the Red Deer area is known as having some of the most productive farmland in Canada. It was dry at the end of the season, however crops were good. Everyone was more optimistic once they ended up getting it in the bin.”

Most of all, Agri-Trade is a place of passion, where people are happy to educate and inspire the next generation of agri-professionals.

Fiddler added that this year’s show is set to welcome a record number of exhibitors — around 550.
