Taxi plate draw to be held in Red Deer

The City of Red Deer is holding a taxi plate draw Nov. 6 at City Hall.

Per the City:

“The City of Red Deer Vehicle for Hire Bylaw Vehicle For Hire Bylaw, adopted on May 27, 2024, included an increase of 15 taxi plates per year for three consecutive years. Following these increases, the spring of 2027 will see the plate cap removed. From the 26 plates awarded in June 2025, 12 plates were returned to the City. These 12 plates are to be awarded by random draw on November 6, 2025.”

The city adds that to be eligible for a plate draw, applicants must meet all criteria to hold a taxi licence plate and must have a plan to open a brokerage or operate as an independent driver owner.

To enter the draw, eligible applicants must complete the following before the application deadline:

2. Brokerage Licence Application Form (for new Brokerages)
3. Driver Application Form (for Independent Driver Owners)
4. Payment of Plate Draw Fee – $104.70

Important dates:

• November 3 at 12 p.m. (noon) – Deadline for completed application packages
• November 4 at 11:59 p.m. – Deadline for payment of Plate Draw Fee
• November 6 at 2 p.m. – Plate Draw to be held at Red Deer City Hall
• February 6, 2026 – Plates awarded in the draw must be operational
