RDP Athletes of the Week: Oct. 24-26

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Olivia Lundell (Queens soccer) and Japhet Kipkosgei (Kings cross country running) as the Boston Pizza RDP Athletes of the Week:

Olivia Lundell – Queens Soccer

Program – Open Studies (2nd)

Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

Olivia Lundell played an integral role in helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens soccer team earn bronze at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Soccer Championship.

In the quarterfinals, the RDP Queens defeated the Keyano College Huskies 2-0.

Red Deer’s Lundell played a well-rounded game. In the semi-finals, the Concordia University Thunder edged the Queens 1-0.

Then Lundell, an Open Studies student, scored twice, lifting the RDP Queens to a 2-1 bronze medal victory over the SAIT Trojans.

The talented midfielder was named to the ACAC Women’s Soccer All-Tournament team and South All-Conference team.

Lundell and the Queens will host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship from November 5-8 at Setters Place in Red Deer.

Japhet Kipkosgei – Kings Cross Country Running

Program – University Arts Diploma (2nd)

Hometown – Kapsabet, Kenya

Japhet Kipkosgei had an outstanding race for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings cross-country running team at the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships held in Grande Prairie.

Kipkosgei (25:46), a second-year runner from Kenya, earned an individual silver medal over eight kilometres.

His tremendous result contributed to the RDP Kings (26 team points) achieving a team gold medal.

They impressively defeated second-place Lethbridge Polytechnic (46) by 20 points.

He has been a consistent performer, ranking among the top ACAC male runners all season.

Kipkosgei (University Arts Diploma) and the Kings will vie for a medal at the CCAA Cross Country Running National Championships in Prince Edward Island on Saturday, November 8.
