RDP Athletics recap: Oct. 17-19

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens basketball teams dropped their home games. The Kings hockey team won both games against the Briercrest College Clippers. The RDP volleyball teams and Queens hockey squad split their weekend series. The Kings soccer team earned a win while the Queens soccer team drew even with the Olds College Broncos. The rodeo results were not available.

Basketball

Queens vs. NAIT | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, October 17

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team was defeated 67-51 by the NAIT Ooks at home. Lacombe’s Mia Cunningham led the Queens with 12 points.

Queens vs. U of A Augustana | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 18

The RDP Queens (0-2) dropped a 61-48 decision to the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (2-0). Jorgia Hicks (Open Studies), a second-year guard from Red Deer, recorded 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals for the Polytechnic.

Kings vs. NAIT | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, October 17

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball team fell short against the NAIT Ooks by 28 points (79-51) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Calgary’s Marvellous Adepoju (Open Studies) powered the Kings’ offence with 15 points.

Kings vs. U of A Augustana | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 18

The Vikings (2-0) got by the Kings (0-2) by a score of 88-66. Both Noah Simon (Open Studies) and William Tcherkachine (Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies) scored 11 points for RDP.

Hockey

Queens at SAIT Trojans | Friday, October 17

The RDP Queens Hockey team earned a 2-1 victory against the SAIT Trojans on the road. Arilyn Toews, a fifth-year forward from Wembley, Alberta, scored both of the Queens’ goals. Elizabeth Campbell (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) made 17 saves in the Polytechnic’s net.

Queens vs Trojans | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 18

The SAIT Trojans (1-3) picked up a 3-1 decision over the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (3-2) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Victoria Longley (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) had RDP’s lone goal.

Kings vs Clippers | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, October 17

The RDP Kings Hockey team defeated the Briercrest College Clippers 4-3. Tanner Sklaruk, Nolan Doell, Mason Bueckert and Nathan DeGraves scored for the Kings.

Kings vs Clippers | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 18

The Kings (2-0) earned a 6-4 win over the Clippers (0-2) in Red Deer. Doell, a fourth-year forward from Martensville, Saskatchewan, had a hat trick for the Kings. Ryland McNinch, Sean Michalevich and Bueckert added singles for the Polytechnic.

Soccer

Queens vs Olds College | Setters Place in Red Deer | Sunday, October 19

The second-place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team (8-3-1) and the seventh-seed Olds College Broncos (0-9-3) played to a 1-1 draw in Red Deer. Olivia Lundell scored the Queens’ goal.

The RDP Queens have qualified for the ACAC Women’s Soccer Championship held October 24-26 at Raymond Comet Stadium.

Kings vs Olds College | Setters Place | Sunday, October 19

In their final regular-season game, the fifth-place RDP Kings Soccer team (2-5-3) solidified a 3-1 victory over the sixth-seeded Olds College Broncos (0-9-1) at Setters Place in Red Deer. Liam Parsons, Njegos Bajovic and Ryan Kelly scored for RDP. The Kings missed the playoffs.

Volleyball

Queens at NAIT Ooks | Friday, October 17

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to the NAIT Ooks (27-29, 23- 25, 25-15 and 16-25). Red Deer’s Marin Walton (Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences) led the Queens with 10 kills.

Queens at University of Alberta Augustana | Saturday, October 18

The Queens (1-1) defeated the U of A Augustana Vikings (1-1) in five sets (25-15, 25-20, 19-25, 11-25 and 20-18). Nadia McKeage, a third-year outside hitter from Red Deer, contributed 13 digs, nine kills and one assist.

Kings at NAIT Ooks | Friday, October 17

The RDP Kings Volleyball team was edged in five sets by the NAIT Ooks (21-25, 25-23, 25-27, 25-18 and 16-18). Both Colby Nemeth and Brett Lower had 21 kills for the Polytechnic.

Kings at U of A Augustana | Saturday, October 18

The Kings swept the Vikings in Camrose (25-18, 25-22 and 25-14). Setter Netana Samia had 20 assists, five digs and a kill for RDP.

Rodeo Queens | Lakeland College Fall Classic | October 18-19

The rodeo results were not available.
