This week in RDP Athletics: Oct. 3-5

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens hockey team will open the new ACAC campaign with a pair of games. Both RDP Soccer teams will play a two-game homestand. The cross country running squad will race in Camrose.

Here is a summary of the upcoming competition:

Hockey

Queens at Lakeland College Rustlers | Friday, October 3 | 7 p.m.

The RDP Queens Hockey team will face-off against the Lakeland College Rustlers in a rematch of last year’s ACAC Championship.

With 10 newcomers integrating alongside 16 returning student-athletes, the Queens are combining youthful energy with veteran leadership. This blend has fostered synergy on and off the ice, laying the groundwork for a team identity built on trust and common goals.

“Our new and returning Queens are great individuals,” said Brett Wold, Queens hockey head coach. “They push each other to get better. They’re establishing an identity of being a hardworking and skilled team.”

Queens | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 4 | 7 p.m.

The Queens Hockey team will entertain the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Soccer

Queens | RDP Main Field | Saturday, October 4 | 12 p.m.

The second place RDP Queens (6-1-0) will host the third seed Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (3-2-1). Red Deer’s McKenna Leslie ranks second in goals (10), points (23) and shots (23) in ACAC Women’s Soccer.

Queens | RDP Main Field | Sunday, October 5 | 12 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team (6-1-0) will compete against the fourth place Medicine Hat College Rattlers (3-3-0). Queens goalkeeper Jana Leskewich leads the league in save percentage (0.933) and goals against average (0.22).

Kings | RDP Main Field | Saturday, October 4 | 2:15 p.m.

The fifth seed Kings Soccer team (0-3-3) will play the fourth place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (1-2-2) at home. Liam Parsons (Open Studies) leads the Kings with two goals.

Kings | RDP Main Field | Sunday, October 5 | 2:15 p.m.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team (0-3-3) will face the undefeated Medicine Hat College Rattlers (5-0-0) at the RDP Main Field.

Cross Country Running

Kings and Queens at the U of A Augustana | Running Room Grand Prix #4 | Saturday, October 4

The Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team will race in Camrose as the final formal tune-up before the ACAC Championships on Saturday, October 25 in Grande Prairie.

Non-Conference

Tuesday, September 30

  • RDP Queens Basketball at The King’s University Eagles | 6 p.m.
  • Kings Basketball at The King’s University | 8 p.m.
