Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce McKenna Leslie (Queens soccer) and Andrew Leffers (Kings cross country running) as the Athletes of the Week:

McKenna Leslie – Queens Soccer

Program – Bachelor of Education (2nd)

Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

McKenna Leslie had an outstanding weekend on the pitch, helping the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team earn a pair of victories.

In Saturday’s 2-0 win over the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, the second-year bachelor of education student scored the Queens’ first goal (and eventual game winner) in the 46th minute.

Then in Sunday’s 9-0 shutout victory over the Ambrose University Lions, Red Deer’s Leslie assisted on the RDP Queens’ second marker and scored the team’s third, seventh and eighth goals.

Leslie has been an integral part of the RDP Queens’ success and second place standing in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division with a 6-1-0 record.

This coming weekend, Leslie and the Queens will host the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks and Medicine Hat College Rattlers.

Andrew Leffers – Kings Cross Country Running

Program – Electrician (1st)

Hometown – Spruce Grove, Alberta

Andrew Leffers, an Electrician apprenticeship student, has demonstrated continuous growth throughout the ACAC Cross Country Running season.

In Grande Prairie, the first-year student-athlete from Spruce Grove (25:59) placed second among ACAC male runners over 8 km at Running Room Grand Prix #3.

His exceptional result helped the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings cross country running team finish first as a group with 14 points. Concordia University of Edmonton followed in second with 51 team points.

Leffers and his teammates will compete at Running Room Grand Prix #4 in Camrose on Saturday, October 4.
