The Red Deer Public Library has been selected as one of 10 libraries in Alberta to host unique fossil exhibits from the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

On Tuesday, the library released further details on an announcement they made in August that they’ll host one of the various pop-up exhibits, which gives an opportunity for communities to learn more about and engage in paleontology.

The exhibit will be installed at the downtown branch (4818 49 Street) this Saturday, Sept. 27, which will be unveiled to the community at 2:30 p.m. on the second level of the building. The exhibit will remain on location until September 2026.

Prior to the unveiling, there will also be a virtual tour of the Royal Tyrrell Museum at 1 p.m. in the Snell auditorium at the downtown branch.

The library explained over the next year there will be various dinosaur and paleontology programs, events, activities, and resources for all ages.

Officials say the partnership with libraries across Alberta is the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s way of celebrating its 40th anniversary.

According to the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s website, it is the country’s only museum dedicated exclusively to the study of ancient life. In addition to featuring one of the world’s largest displays of dinosaurs, they offer a wide variety of creative, fun, and educational programs that bring the prehistoric past to life.
