Town of Sylvan Lake signs lakefront lease agreement

The Town of Sylvan Lake has entered into a lease agreement with the Government of Alberta for over 18 hectares of lakefront north of the retaining wall, including sand and water.

The leased area extends from 34 Street to Lighthouse Park at the mouth of the marina and varies from approximately 50 to 175 metres into the lake.

Sylvan Lake Mayor Megan Hanson said it’s a landmark moment for Sylvan Lake.

“After years of hard work and collaboration, I’m thrilled to see our Departmental Miscellaneous Lease approved — the first of its kind in Alberta,” she said. “A heartfelt thank you to our MLA Devin Dreeshen, and everyone who helped get this across the finish line. We’re now better equipped to bring our vision for the waterfront to life and continue building a community that’s deeply connected to our lake.”

The town entered the agreement to better manage and provide a safer experience for residents and the visitors who come to boat, swim, and enjoy the lake.

This now means a new public day use mooring dock will be installed next to lighthouse park beginning on July 30 and an accessible ramp will be built into the water at approximately 42 street, off Centennial Park in September.
