The Camrose & District Chamber is hosting a candidates forum July 29 for the federal byelection in Battle River-Crowfoot.

The event is sold out, but will be live-streamed.

“The Camrose & District Chamber of Commerce is proud to offer this forum as a civic service to our community,” says Jennifer Fossen, President, Camrose & District Chamber of Commerce.

“Given the number of registered candidates and the limited time available, we implemented a fair, transparent, and clearly communicated process to ensure a manageable and meaningful event. We remain committed to non-partisan engagement and thank all candidates and voters for their participation.”

The Chamber notes it limited participation to 10 candidates so as to “preserve a meaningful exchange within venue and time limits presented by an unusually long ballot.”

That said, it is not disclosing ahead of time which ones will be there.

As of 3 p.m. on July 28, there are 209 candidates, most of which belong to protest movement known as the Longest Ballot Committee (LBC).

Aside from the independents connected to the LBC, there are three other independents (Bonnie Critchley, Sarah Spanier and Dylan Colquhoun) running in the byelection, as well as candidates representing the Conservative Party of Canada, Liberal Party of Canada, New Democratic Party of Canada, United Party of Canada, Libertarian Party of Canada, Centrist Party of Canada, and Christian Heritage Party of Canada.

The forum on Tuesday begins at 7 p.m. from the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, and it will be moderated by Shauna Feth, Alberta Chamber of Commerce president and CEO.

The live-stream will be available during the event and for 48 hours after the event concludes.
