Town of Sylvan Lake to upgrade 47 Avenue

The Town of Sylvan Lake will soon begin work on upgrading 47 Avenue this month.

The work, which is being done to improve safety and traffic flow, will stretch from Highway 20 to the west access to Walmart.

Among the construction items on the to-do list are widening the road to a four-lane divided roadway and adding traffic signals at the intersection of 47 Avenue and Iron Gate Boulevard/Thevenaz Industrial Trail.

Project construction also includes tree removals, storm catch basin adjustments, grading, concrete curbs and sidewalks, asphalt paving, asphalt trail, line markings, landscaping, and signage.

From July 16 to 21, crews will be building detour routes and from July 21 to Oct. 31, construction on the upgrades will take place.

The town says work will be done between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and all surrounding businesses will remain open.

The total cost of the project is $3.39 million and is funded by Town of Sylvan Lake capital budget.
