Alberta Next Panel town hall set for Tuesday night in Red Deer

Jul 15, 2025 | 9:28 AM

Red Deer is the site of the first of 10 in-person town hall meetings for the Alberta Next Panel over the next few months.

On July 15 starting at 6 p.m., at the sold-out event at the Marquis Room in the Harvest Centre at Westerner Park, those in attendance will get the opportunity to share their ideas and concerns that could help shape future decisions for Albertans.

In addition to the town hall in Red Deer, there will also be nine other stops across Alberta including Sherwood Park (July 16), Edmonton (Aug. 14), Fort McMurray (Aug. 26), Lloydminster (Aug. 27), Medicine Hat (Sept. 2), Lethbridge (Sept. 11), Airdrie (Sept. 15), Grande Prairie (Sept. 17), and Calgary (Sept. 29).

There will also be online town halls on October 1 and 22.

Organizers say the Panel will discuss matters like establishing an Alberta Pension Plan, transitioning from the RCMP to an Alberta Provincial Police Service, whether Albertans should consider pursuing constitutional changes, altering the equalization system, immigration reform, how Alberta collects personal income tax, and more.

Members of the panel include Premier Danielle Smith, MLA for Calgary-Shaw Rebecca Schulz, Calgary Businessman Andrew Judson, MLA for Leduc-Beaumont Brandon Lunty, the honourable Bruce McDonald, MLA Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock Glenn van Dijken, Melody Garner-Skiba, Dr. Trevor Tombe, Sumita Anand, Adam Legge, Dr. Akin Osakuade, Grant B. Fagerheim, Michael Binnion, Dr. Benny Xu, Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA Tara Sawyer, and member of the Samson Cree Nation Stephen Buffalo.
