Penhold man charged with manslaughter after fatal hit and run in Blackfalds

The Alberta Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide in Blackfalds after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Monday.

Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a hit and run in a parking lot off Highway 2 on June 16 at 11:39 p.m. in Blackfalds.

The victim, 39-year-old Preston Arndt, was cared for by emergency workers before he was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The suspect, 31-year-old Penhold resident Alan Navarrete, fled the scene, according to police, but was later arrested in Red Deer after another motor vehicle collision.
