County of Stettler lifts fire ban but implements fire restriction

The County of Stettler has announced they’re lifting their fire ban but a fire restriction will remain in place as of 10 a.m. on Friday.

The decision was made because new vegetation growth has helped reduce the fire hazard in the area. However, officials note the current weather forecast doesn’t show any additional precipitation in the near future, which is why the fire restriction remains in place until further notice.

As a result, no new burn permits will be issued and burning of brush piles is prohibited.

Meanwhile, burning barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material and have a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings not larger than 13 mm are allowed.
