50 years of early learning and child care to be celebrated at RDP

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) celebrates 50 years of impact through its early learning and child care programming this weekend.

RDP has offered its early learning and child care certificate and diploma since 1975. Recently, it added two new workplace immersive programs, the workplace advancement specialization and the early childhood education leadership development certificate, intended for working professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The institution has seen more than 1,000 students graduate from these programs, and says they’ve gone on to create positive change in the lives of children across Alberta and beyond.

Faculty and staff from the program invite alumni, former colleagues, industry partners and the community to join them in celebrating 50 years of programming on Apr. 26.

“We’re excited to celebrate this educational milestone, highlighting RDP’s commitment to early childhood education,” says Dr. Julia Rheaume, Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Education at RDP. “This milestone contributes to building strong connections and capacity in the early childhood education profession in Alberta that helps to pave the way for a bright and strong future for children and communities across our province.”

Held in Room 2602 on the main campus from 10 a.m. to noon, attendees will hear from industry professionals as they share on the current state and future potential of the early childhood education sector.

The audience should learn more about the profession by speaking to representatives from various organizations, who will have information booths up. Instructors and staff from the early learning and child care programs will also be available to provide information and answer questions.

Individuals and families are welcome to drop in to the event, but RDP asks attendees to RSVP online if possible to assist the organizers in planning.
