Red Deer playing host to regional one-act theatre festival

Red Deer is set to host the Heartland Regional One-Act Festival, an annual community theatre festival, this month at the Central Alberta Theatre.

April 11-12, this event will be held in the Studio Theatre of the Central Alberta Theatre’s Memorial Centre (4214 58 Street), acting as a springboard for the Provincial One-Act Festival to come later this spring.

A preview performance will take place on April 11, followed by the official adjudicated show on April 12.

Three productions will be presented, including two new works by local* playwrights:

  • Central Alberta Theatre presents “A Trumped-Up Fairy Tale,” by Courtney Boniface and directed by Myranda Corney.*
  • Flying Blind Collective presents “The Boor,” by Anton Chekhov and directed by Robyn Jeffery.
  • CoOl KaSa Productions presents “Grief Sandwiches,” written by Barbara Pettie and directed by Emily Chase.*

On both days, showings will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 403-967-1769 between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The winning production will represent the Heartland Region at the Provincial One-Act Festival taking place in Medicine Hat from May 30-31.
