Mar 19, 2025 | 9:52 PM

The Red Deer Rebels lost their third straight game on Wednesday night in a 5-1 setback to the Calgary Hitmen at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Hitmen goaltender Daniel Hauser made 21 saves in the victory and also set a new WHL record for most wins all-time by a goalie with 123.

The Hitmen also had multiple players with multi-point performances including Ethan Moore, Sawyer Mynio, and Oliver Tulk. Rebels forward Samuel Drancak was the lone goal scorer for Red Deer.

Carson Wetsch put the Hitmen up 1-0 on their first shot of the game just over a minute into the first period. Wetsch redirected the puck past goaltender Peyton Shore on a centring pass from former Rebel Carson Birnie.

With less than five minutes left the Hitmen extended their lead 2-0 with an insurance goal from defenceman Hunter Aura, who ripped a shot from the blue line that found its way through traffic.

The Hitmen added their third goal of the evening after Brandon Gorzynski capitalized on a three-way passing play approximately 5:51 into the second period.

The Hitmen made it 4-0 just 1:44 after their last goal. Mynio scored on the powerplay off the feed from Oliver Tulk.

Calgary added another 46 seconds later on the powerplay off the stick of Moore, who scored his 22 goal of the season assisted by Mynio.

The Rebels finally got on the board with 8:35 left in the game. Forward Samuel Drancak knocked in the puck off a fantastic feed on the offensive rush from Talon Brigley on the powerplay.

The Rebels were outshot by the Hitmen 30-22 and ended the game with only one powerplay goal on four attempts. Meanwhile, the Hitmen scored two powerplay markers on four opportunities.

Next up, the Rebels will play their final home game of the season on Saturday night at the Centrium in a rematch with the Hitmen. Calgary is in the hunt for first place in the Eastern Conference standings and are just two points behind the Medicine Hat Tigers.

On Sunday, they’ll then head to Edmonton to battle the Oil Kings to wrap up the 2024-25 campaign.
