Innisfail Eagles lead Lacombe Generals 1-0 in NCHL Final

Mar 10, 2025 | 1:43 PM

The Innisfail Eagles are up 1-0 in their NCHL Senior Men’s AA Final after a hard-fought 5-3 victory on Saturday over the Lacombe Generals.

The Eagles (7-1-2 regular season) and Gens (6-1-0) were tied a couple times, but Innisfail never trailed in the game.

Tied 3-3 late in the third, Eagles defenseman Zachary Evans-Renaud was called for holding.

This set the stage for Tyler Berkholdz to deliver the game-winning heroics, netting a shorthanded goal with just 1:36 remaining.

An empty-netter salted it away for Innisfail.

Chance Griffith continued his solid play between the pipes, stopping 36 of 39 shots.

Mackenzie Engle stopped 34 of 38 for Lacombe.

The series shifts to Innisfail for Game 2 on March 15 — 7:30 p.m. puck drop at the Innisfail Twin Arenas.

Game 3 is March 16 in Lacombe, with a 2:30 start at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex. Game 4 is slated for March 21 at 8 p.m. in Innisfail.

Games 5-7, if necessary, are scheduled for March 22 (7:30 in Lacombe), March 29 (7:30 in Innisfail), and March 30 (3:00 in Lacombe).

Tickets are available at the door and live streaming will be available for both home and away games.
