City of Red Deer closes outdoor rinks for the season

Feb 28, 2025 | 12:29 PM

Extended warm temperatures in the Red Deer area has led the City of Red Deer to close outdoor skating surfaces.

They’re also warning residents of hazardous conditions on community ponds, the river, and creeks.

As of Friday, the City of Red Deer has closed all neighbourhood outdoor rinks and Bower Ponds for the remainder of the season. The City says the reason for this is conditions are not up to standard to maintain safe ice surfaces. As a result, public works staff will be removing nets and turning off the lights.

Meanwhile, the Ice Oval at Setters Place is temporarily closed until Monday, March 3, when staff plans to reassess ice conditions.
