Rebels edged by Hurricanes on the road

The Red Deer Rebels lost their 13th straight game on Friday night.

In Lethbridge they fell 4-1 to the Hurricanes after Leo Braillard scored a hat trick and Logan Wormald added three points to take down their central division foes.

Red Deer’s lone goal came from Talon Brigley and rookie goaltender Peyton Shore made 32 saves in his first game since the beginning of the month.

The Rebels were out shot 36-25 and were held scoreless on three powerplay opportunities. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes went three-for-seven on the man advantage.

The Hurricanes took control of the game right away outshooting the Rebels 12-6 in the opening period. Their efforts earned them a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes going three-for-three on the man advantage.

With 11:19 left in the first period, the Hurricanes opened the scoring nine seconds into their powerplay after Braillard tipped a shot past Shore.

Just 14 seconds later, the Hurricanes scored another powerplay goal after Matthew Gard took a delay of game penalty. Braillard was the goal scorer, who notched his second of the period to take an early 2-0 lead.

With 3:18 left in the opening frame, the Hurricanes scored their third powerplay goal when Wormald tipped a point shot from Noah Chadwick.

Red Deer finally got on the board a little over two minutes into the second period. Brigley redirected a shot from Jace Weir while in front of the net.

In the third period, the Hurricanes sealed the deal early off a shot from Braillard to complete the hat trick.

Next up, the Rebels will take on the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 7 p.m. followed by a trip to Calgary on Sunday to take on the Hitmen at 6 p.m.

With the loss, Red Deer is now last in the division and in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a 15-23-4-2 record.
