Upgrades funded by provincial government coming to Red Deer Public Schools’ facilities

Jan 17, 2025 | 2:35 PM

The Red Deer Public Schools board of trustees solidified the 2024-25 facility maintenance plan on Jan. 15, which has a number of projects to upgrade schools throughout the year.

The projects are completed using provincial grant funding from two separate sets of funding including the Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) and Capital Maintenance and Renewal (CMR) programs.

The IMR program presented will have a total of $1.3 million in projects and the CMR Program will total $1.7 million.

Some of the projects include new signage at Central Middle School which will cost $20,000. Upgrades to the art room at Eastview will cost $30,000 and hallway upgrades at Normandeau School will cost $57,540.

Additionally, there will be upgrades to the library at Fairview for $60,000 and a gymnasium upgrade at Pines Alternative for $100,000.

Finally, there will be mechanical upgrades at Glendale Sciences and Technology for $175,000, upgrades of heat pumps at Lindsay Thurber for $200,000, and building envelope upgrades at Westpark Elementary for $1.7 million.

The planning of facilities improvement projects began in the fall with consultation meetings with school principals and is planned to allow time to schedule the projects.

Some of these projects are scheduled during the summer months depending on if they’re big or small projects or if they’ll disrupt normal operation during the school year.
