Dec 9, 2024 | 5:05 PM

Look to the skies, because the Red Deer Regional Airshow has just announced it’s set to return to central Alberta in 2026.

In 2023, the show saw more than 25,000 guests enjoy the performances and displays.

The organization says its highlights were the renowned Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Canadian Armed Forces Skyhawks, a CF-18 Hornet tactical demonstration, vintage warbirds like the P-40 Kittyhawk, FRU Corsair and P-51 Mustangs, and a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter from CFB Esquimalt.

There was also a Heritage Flight feature including historic yellow RCAF Harvards that served CFB Penhold for decades, alongside a modern RCAF Harvard II trainer.

On the ground, attendees could enjoy STEM workshops, food trucks, static displays and opportunities to connect with aviation industry professionals and organizations. More opportunities like this are expected for the 2026 show as well.

“The return of the Red Deer Regional Airshow is a proud moment for our airport and our community” says Nancy Paish, CEO of Red Deer Regional Airport.

“This event embodies the excitement and innovation that aviation brings to our region. With our new infrastructure in place, we’re thrilled to welcome back visitors and aviation enthusiasts to the Red Deer Regional Airport to celebrate and experience the changes we’ve made and the improvements we’re still making with out ongoing development and expansion”

Since the 2023 show, the Red Deer Regional Airport has undergone a $34 million expansion including an expanded terminal, new taxiway, upgraded airside infrastructure and a new road opening up 800,000 square metres for land development. This should allow it to accomodate larger aircraft and improve passenger capacity.

Planning for 2026 is underway and those interested in sponsoring or partnering can reach out to airshow@flyreddeer.com. More information regarding the lineup, ticketing and schedules will be announced in early 2026.
