50+ NON-PROFITS IN RED DEER

Extend a hand this International Volunteer Day

Dec 5, 2024 | 11:42 AM

December 5 marks International Volunteer Day, an opportunity to recognize the volunteers that serve our community, or take the steps to become one yourself.

Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women, issued a statement to recognize the day.

“Volunteers play an important role in our everyday lives,” she said. “Volunteers support sports and recreation programming, arts programming, community events, festivals, educational programs and so much more. Through their efforts, they inspire others to develop their skills to give back to their communities, demonstrating the power of goodwill and dedication. Their contributions resonate across every corner of our province.”

Fir highlighted the province’s contributions to the volunteer and non-profit landscape in Alberta, such as the Volunteer Screening Program, Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards and the Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition Program.

“Today and every day, I encourage Albertans to take a moment to thank a volunteer or explore how you can support a cause important to you by giving the gift of your time. Volunteering is a great way to make an impact in your community and a better province for us all.”

There are more than 50 non-profit organizations in Red Deer, a list of which can be found on the Red Deer District Chamber website; many of these organizations could use a helping hand from the community this holiday season.
