RDP Athletics — The RDP Athletics Athletes of the Week for Nov. 22-24 are:

Kaylee Raniseth
Queens Curling
Program – Bachelor of Education Middle Years (4th)
Hometown – Delburne, Alberta

Skip Kaylee Raniseth and the RDP Queens Curling team had a dominant performance at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Fall Regional in Camrose. Delburne’s Raniseth made many clutch shots throughout the weekend, helping to guide her team to first place in the women’s division (5-0).

Raniseth, a Bachelor of Education Middle Years student, and the Queens defeated the Concordia University Thunder 6-4, SAIT Trojans 7-5, NAIT Ooks 9-3, host University of Alberta Augustana Vikings 8-6 and Lakeland College Rustlers 9-5.

Next, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will participate in the ACAC Winter Regional from January 17-19, 2025 in Edmonton. The combined results from the Fall and Winter Regionals will determine the top four teams in each division. These top four squads will qualify for the ACAC Curling Championships hosted by RDP from February 7-9, 2025 at the Pidherney Centre.

Cole Wicker
Kings Basketball
Program – Bachelor of Education (4th)
Hometown – Chilliwack, BC

This past weekend, Cole Wicker was a difference maker, helping the RDP Kings Basketball team earn two home victories. Chilliwack’s Wicker contributed a total of 43 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals, eight assists and three blocks.

In Friday’s 86-76 win over The King’s University Eagles, the six-foot-five guard accumulated 11 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, five assists and two blocks.

Then on Saturday afternoon, Wicker took his game to another level, guiding the Kings to an impressive 85-48 decision over the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. Wicker, a Bachelor of Education student, had 32 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in only 22 minutes. He shot 100 per cent from the free-throw line and 75 per cent from three-point range. Wicker was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.

Next weekend, Wicker and the RDP Kings will play road games against the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings and NAIT Ooks.
