Nov 11, 2024 | 10:57 PM

The Everett Silvertips swept the Red Deer Rebels 6-1 on Monday night at the Angel of the Winds Arena, the Rebels’ third game and third loss in their U.S. tour.

The Silvertips took advantage of every power play they could, starting with a goal by Carter Bear at 8:29, assisted by Julius Miettinen and Dominik Rymon, following a hooking penalty to Rebels’ Talon Brigley.

Red Deer Rebels were in and out of the penalty box for minors for the next ten minutes, leaving Ollie Josephson to sink a shorthanded goal, his fifth goal of the season, just 1:15 before the end of the first frame.

Tied at 1-1, period one ended with four shots on goal by the Rebels and 12 by the Silvertips.

The second frame started with a new goalie for Everett, with Alex Garrett coming in to replace Jesse Sanche.

Red Deer kept the heat on, winning most of the face-offs in the first half of the period until Hunter Mayo tripped his way to the penalty box and put the Silvertips on the power play.

Bear secured the face-off against Red Deer’s Matthew Gard and got his second power play goal of the game, sixteenth goal of the season, at 11:04. He was assisted by Tarin Smith and Dominik Rymon, bringing Everett to 2-1.

The Silvertips refused to let up and Tyler MacKenzie then secured a rebound off Wutzke with just 2:20 left in the frame, with Kaden Hammell and Julien Maze assisting to bring the team to 3-1.

The Rebels took another eight shots on goal but were unable to find the mark; Silvertips took 10.

Over half the third period went by before Gard took a tripping minor and set the Silvertips up for their fifth power play.

At 15:35, the puck bounced off the end boards in the Rebels’ zone to Landon DuPont, who tapped it in and brought Everett to 4-1 with his fifth season goal. He was assisted by Rymon and Bear.

Just 30 seconds later, the Silvertips’ Caden Brown increased their lead to 5-1 with assistance from Caine Wilke and Hammell.

Then again, with only 2:07 left in the game, Smith got another point for the Silvertips, his fifth of the season, assisted by Rymon and MacKenzie.

With three goals in the third frame, the Silvertips dominated 6-1 and with 33 shots on goal to the Rebels’ 25 by the end of the match-up.

The Rebels’ next chance to break their streak is on Nov. 12 at 8:05 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds at the accesso ShoWare Center. Listen live at 106.7 Rewind Radio.
