Red Deer region sees significant drop in unemployment rate

The Red Deer region’s unemployment rate came in at 6.6 per cent in October.

That compares with a rate of 7.6 per cent the month before, and 7.4 per cent the same month last year.

Elsewhere throughout the province, Edmonton had a jobless rate of 7.9 per cent in October, while Calgary’s was 7.4 per cent.

The unemployment rate came in at 6.8 per cent for Lethbridge-Medicine Hat last month, 6.7 per cent for Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake, 4.9 per cent for Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca, Grande Prairie-Peace River, and 4.3 per cent for Camrose-Drumheller.

Alberta’s unemployment rate was 7.2 per cent last month, down from 7.4 per cent in September, but still up from the 5.5 per cent jobless rate seen in October 2023.

The national unemployment rate was 6.5 per cent last month, down from 6.8 per cent in September, but still up from 5.6 per cent in October of last year.
