Six organizations receive microgrant funding from Community Foundation of Central Alberta

The Community Foundation of Central Alberta has awarded another round of microgrants to organizations, with six local agencies named as recipients.

The total amount awarded for the Fall 2024 round was $29,600, and the following organizations were beneficiaries:

Lacombe Museum – $4,600

This grant will be used for electronic enhancements, including a digital display to showcase archival materials in a small space, and a technology expansion to increase staff capacity. It will also go towards staff training needed for professional membership, which will ideally improve the museum’s ability to serve the community better.

Red Deer Arts Council – $5,000

The Council will use this grant to help expand its Hub 3.0 program.The Hub 3.0 is a program held twice a week at the YMCA and centres on offering art programs to people with developmental, cognitive, and physical disabilities. The expansion to two days should increase the number of spaces for art, theatre, and movement activities.

Red Deer Meals on Wheels – $5,000

The grant to Meals on Wheels has been allocated to the Going Home Program, which works to ensure a smooth transition to the home for those recovering from a hospital stay by providing delivered meals.

Rocky Mountain House Museum – $5,000

The Museum intends to use these funds to improve its security by installing interior and exterior security cameras and a monitoring system so staff and customers can all feel safe when visiting the building.

Stettler Hospice Society – $5,000

This grant will support the operation of the organization’s rural hospice suite, which is provided at no cost to families.

YMCA of Northern Alberta – $5,000

The YMCA plans to use this grant to support its Alternative Suspension program in Red Deer, which supports youth undergoing suspension, expulsion, or for a preventative stay. Youth support workers aim to establish trust and work with students on successfully reintegrating back to school by providing positive social supports and encouraging youth to have a voice.
