Alberta RCMP reminds public to use caution in winter driving conditions

Oct 22, 2024 | 9:25 AM

The Alberta RCMP are reminding the public to take extra precautions while driving in winter weather conditions.

Some parts of the province have already seen their first snowfall of the winter and police are asking to consider avoiding travel when there’s ice on the roads and blowing snow.

RCMP say before hitting the road motorists should make sure to remove all snow off of the vehicle, allow yourself extra time to reach your destination, make sure headlights are working, increase breaking distance, travel with a charged cell phone, and make sure to slow down and drive in accordance to the conditions.

The public should also consider carrying a winter emergency kit in your vehicle with items such as a thermal blanket, extra clothing, a candle and waterproof matches, first aid kit, flashlight, booster cables, road salt, and a shovel.
