RDP Athletics weekend recap

This past week, the RDP Queens Cross Country Running team took top spot at Running Room Grand Prix #5.

The Kings placed fourth. Both Soccer teams split their weekend games.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team dropped a pair of close contests to the Lakeland College Rustlers.

The RDP Rodeo team continued to perform well in Vermilion, earning several top 10 finishes.

Hockey

Queens at Lakeland College Rustlers | Lloydminster, AB | October 11

The Rustlers edged the Queens 3-2. Kaedence Mollin (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) scored both of the Polytechnic’s goals on the power play. Queens goaltender Tora Ward made 33 saves (0.917).

Queens vs Rustlers | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena | October 12

The fourth place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team (1-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to the top seed Lakeland College Rustlers (2-0). Tasha Barsby (Bachelor of Science) scored the Queens’ lone goal.

Queens vs Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks | RDP Main Field | October 12

The third place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (6-4) downed the second seed RDP Queens Soccer team 1-0. Queens goalkeeper Jana Leskewich (Bachelor of Education) made two saves.

RDP Queens vs Medicine Hat College Rattlers | RDP Main Field | October 13

The Queens (8-3) blanked the fourth seed Rattlers (4-5-1) by a 3-0 margin at home. Kennedy Van Arragon, Alisha Coules and Olivia Lundell scored for RDP. Beaumont’s Leskewich earned the shutout.

Kings vs Kodiaks | RDP Main Field | October 12

The RDP Kings were defeated 2-0 by the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (5-2-2). Kings goalkeeper Brian Murray (Open Studies) made five saves.

Kings vs Rattlers | RDP Main Field | October 13

The RDP Kings (5-2-2) shut out the fourth place Medicine Hat College Rattlers (3-3-2) by a score of 3-0. Red Deer’s Ajdin Sarcevic scored two goals and Calgary’s Jaxon Fernandes added one for the Kings. Murray turned aside six shots.

The Kings and Kodiaks are tied for first place in the ACAC South Division with 17 points.

Cross Country | Grand Prix #5 | University of Alberta – Augustana | October 12

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams had many noteworthy performances at Running Room Grand Prix #5 in Camrose. The RDP Queens finished first, earning 32 team points. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (69 points) were second, and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (73 points) followed in third.

Melissa Ray (26:03) led the Queens, placing sixth among ACAC female runners over 6 km. Teammate Justine Larson (26:13) was seventh. Myah Cota (26:32) followed in eighth.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings (59 points) ranked fourth. Japhet Kipkosgei (28:59) led the Kings with a sixth-place finish among ACAC male competitors. Teammate Jordan Coen finished seventh.

The SAIT Trojans Men’s team (36 points) led the field. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (39 points) were second and the NAIT Ooks (54 points) placed third.

Rodeo | Lakeland College Fall Classic | Vermilion, AB | October 11-13

The Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo team had many impactful performances at the two-day Lakeland College Fall Classic. The Kings and Queens delivered 10 performances in the top 10.

Casey Thomson (72 points) solidified first in Bareback Riding. Taylor Cholach (14.48) had a third and seventh place ride (14.66) in Barrel Racing. Ponoka’s Chad Cooper (21.3) earned fourth in Tie Down Roping.

Over two days, Elyse Terpsma (21.41) ranked fifth and seventh (22.17) in Pole Bending. On Sunday, Brienne Leer (14.53) was sixth in Barrel Racing. Cooper and Ryan Collett (23.0) combined forces to place eighth in Team Roping. Rimbey’s Julia Holtkamp (11.8 and 10.5) finished tenth in Goat Tying on both days.
