Energy Innovation Fair to showcase industry growth and highlights

Oct 15, 2024 | 4:32 PM

Red Deerians interested in investing in, working in, or simply learning more about energy innovation in Alberta are invited to the Energy Innovation Fair on October 18.

Held in the Cenovus Learning Common at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP), the fair is expected to feature 20-30 exhibitors, vendors, and speakers who will share highlights on energy innovation in central Alberta and Alberta as a whole.

“It’s all about innovation and finding solutions to challenges we’re having in our energy systems. Last year, we talked a lot about electrification, but this year we’re targeting the conversations surrounding economic diversity,” said Chelsah Thomas, a committee member with the fair.

The main fair runs from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will include two panel discussions and multiple workshop-style sessions, electric vehicle demonstrations, and is free to attend.

Thomas added, it’s also a good opportunity for people interested in working in the industry to see what kind of career options are out there, and speak to industry leaders about their career paths.

“The public can come in and interact with industry leaders and experts in a variety of different topics from solar to heat pump systems, to battery technology, agrivoltaics, energy efficiency, straw bale homes, and a lot of other topics,” she explained.

A free e-bike will also be offered as a door prize.

From 6-9 p.m. that evening, the Energy Innovation Fair will hold its first Green Gala Awards to recognize nominees making forward movement in Alberta’s energy economy while also educating the public about energy diversification.

There are three award categories: Entrepreneur (individual or business less than three years old and with less than five employees), Small-Medium Enterprise (business with five or more employees), and Community (individual, community group, or government).

Tickets for the awards ceremony are $20 and can be purchased online.
