One Nice Thing
Contributed by Stephanie Staples at Your Life Unlimited
I do one nice thing. I try to do it every day. It doesn’t always work out that way, but I try.
I’d like to think I’d remember to do this nice thing without a reminder, but I’m not convinced I would – so I have a note on my calendar to remind me, and every day I move the note forward.
At the end of every day, I take a moment to reflect on someone who had a positive influence on my day. Once I choose the person, I write them a short note, text, or email (or sometimes, if it’s a business, I post a review for them) letting them know that they made a difference to me and what qualities I appreciated.
This typically takes me less than 5 minutes to do, and it’s time well spent as I feel happy afterward.
Often they reply that it made their day (or something positive like that), but sometimes there is no reply. And while it’s great for me to know my acknowledgment made someone happy, it doesn’t matter if they don’t reply. I feel good for having done it.
This way I know I have done at least one nice thing a day. Oh, btw, I also keep track of who I send the notes to. I have sent over 220 so far and yes, some people have received more than one.
So, maybe you want to use my idea or develop one of your own that is doable for you.
Doing one nice thing, it’s just one more way to live Your Life, Unlimited! Steph
