Later is too late: Seniors rally for climate action
Red Deer seniors will be rallying for climate action outside the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre on Oct. 1 from 2-4 p.m..
Oct. 1 marks International Day of Older Persons and Canada’s National Seniors Day, and Seniors for Climate, sponsored by the Council of Canadians Red Deer, hopes to see Canada-wide action to demonstrate its growing concern about the impacts of climate change and desire to rebuild a healthy environment for future generations.
The organization’s main messages are:
- We’re in a climate emergency. We need to act now, and later is too late.
- We want faster and better action on climate by all levels of government.
- We must phase out the use of fossil fuels.
- We must stop the financial sector — banks, pension plans, insurance companies — from accelerating climate breakdown.
- We need to speed up the transition to renewable power and clean energy.
- We need climate action that is broad-based and deep-rooted: joining with youth, First Nations, the disadvantaged and equity seeking populations. We’re all in this together.
