Rebels open 2024 pre-season with 1-0 defeat to Hitmen

The Red Deer Rebels were back in game action Friday against their Central Division rival, the Calgary Hitmen, in what was the 2024 pre-season opener for both squads.

The game took place at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut’ina First Nation near Calgary, and Red Deer lost 1-0 in what was an otherwise dominant Hitmen performance.

Scoring summary

The lone goal Friday came off the stick of Ben Kindel (1st), putting Calgary ahead at 12:44 of the opening frame.

And that was all she wrote.

Calgary dominated on the faceoff dot, winning 50 of 73 draws.

The pre-season continues Saturday, Sept. 7 at home to Lethbridge and Sept. 13 at home to Medicine Hat. It wraps up Sept. 14 in Edmonton. Home game start times are 7 p.m. at the Centrium.

The regular season begins with two at home against Lethbridge and Medicine Hat Sept. 21 and 27.
