Multiple central Alberta golfers place in Men’s Senior Championship

Jean-Francois Doyon of the Red Deer Golf & Country Club finished the 2024 Alberta Men’s Senior Championship in seventh place.

The event was held at Highwood Golf in High River from July 30 to August 1.

Doyon finished +5 after shooting 74 in the first round, 68 in the second, and 76 in the third, for a total of 218.

More central Alberta golfers also placed in the championship, including Ken Griffith (Red Deer Golf & Country Club), who placed 10th. At +7, Griffith shot 71 in the first round, 74 in the second, and 75 in the third for a total of 220.

Peter Ines (Red Deer Golf & Country Club) finished +9 in a tie for 15th. He shot 74, then 75, and finally 73, for a total 222.

Arthur Pendle and Cornelis Claasen, both of the Red Deer Golf & Country Club, tied for 24th place at +13, with 226 total strokes. Pendle shot 74 in round one, and 76 in rounds two and three. Claasen shot 74, followed by 71, and then 81.

River Bend Golf Club member Greg Gigliuk tied for 38th place at +16. He shot 78 in round one, then 72, and finally 79 for a total of 229.

The final central Alberta golfer to place was Mark Schultz, who landed in 47th at +20. He shot 79, 74, and 80 for a total of 233.

The following local golfers were cut after round two:

  • Grant Lee, Red Deer Golf & Country Club
  • Gerald Tardif, Red Deer Golf & Country Club
  • Del Booth, River Bend Golf Club
  • Al mah, Red Deer Golf & Country Club
  • Keith Newton, Olds Golf Club
  • Tom Sr. McKinlay, Lacombe Golf & Country Club

David Schultz, of the Country Hills Golf Club, and Senan Foley, of the Golf Canada Club, tied for first at +1 in the championship. Schultz shot 68, 68, and 78 for a total of 214, while Foley shot 71, 68, and 75 for 214.
