Sundre man sentenced in fatal 2022 collision
A Sundre man accused of backing up his pick-up truck into another man and killing him, has been sentenced to 34 months in prison.
Jason Kelly Burns, 32, was sentenced in Calgary Court of King’s Bench on July 19, 2024, after pleading guilty to counts of operation while prohibited, and accident resulting in death. He was found not guilty of manslaughter.
Burns, however, was given 1.5 times credit for 214 days of pre-trial custody for a total of 321 days of pre-trial credit. This leaves him with 699 days or just over 23 months left to serve as of July 19, 2024.
Burns was originally charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, fail to remain at the scene of a collision causing death, and driving while prohibited, stemming from an incident in March 2022 at a rural home in Mountain View County.
