Community Lead Policing

Red Deer County to consider establishing joint Police Advisory Committee with Innisfail

Jul 25, 2024 | 10:40 AM

Steps are being taken to establish a Police Advisory Commission (PAC) in Red Deer County to address enforcement priorities in Innisfail and Penhold.

A motion to consider an agreement to establish a (PAC) in the Innisfail RCMP Detachment area was approved by Red Deer County council on July 23.

The County is expected to begin the recruitment process and then establish a timeline as the next steps in the process.

The main objectives for the PAC are:

  • To advise the Detachment Commander on policing priorities identified through community input, for council consideration and approval.
  • To keep the Detachment Commander informed of emerging trends and issues within the community.
  • To make and/or implement recommendations on community policing initiatives based on identified trends and issues.

There are no financial implications associated with the creation of a PAC as all support staff time and resources required to accommodate the PAC can be handled within existing operational budgets, say County officials.

The principle philosophy of the PAC is that β€œthe police are the community and the community are the police.”
