Newly recruited general surgeon now practicing in Red Deer
A newly recruited general surgeon is now working full-time out of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and City View Surgical Associates Clinic.
Officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS) say Dr. Emily Mitic has been practising in Red Deer temporarily while covering a maternity leave since January and became a permanent member of the team on July 8.
“On behalf of the Government of Alberta and residents of Red Deer and area, I’d like to offer a warm welcome to Dr. Mitic,” says Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Her skill and expertise will improve local access to healthcare services for central Alberta residents.”
AHS says Dr. Mitic grew up in southern Alberta and received her medical degree from the University of Alberta in 2015. She later completed her general surgery residency at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury, Ont., in 2021.
