Soroptimist launches new education award for Indigenous recipients

Jul 15, 2024 | 1:00 PM

Soroptimist International of Central Alberta has launched a new funding opportunity, the Spread Your Wings award, which provides $1500 to female-identifying Indigenous individuals entering into post-secondary education.

Eligible applicants are Indigenous women or Two Spirit and gender diverse people who identify as a woman. They must also be entering into a high school equivalency, vocational, technical, undergraduate, or graduate degree program.

The application deadline is September 15, 2024.

The intention of the award is to help improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Recipients may use the award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education such as books, tuition or transportation.

Soroptimist International of Central Alberta, chartered here in central Alberta in 1988, is part of a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
