Run/Hike for Red Deer Hospice Society returns

Jun 6, 2024 | 1:56 PM

The Red Deer Hospice Society’s annual Run/Hike fundraiser is returning for its 17th year, and participants can look forward to a hearty hamburger lunch from Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse Casual when they cross the finish line.

‘Red Deer Hospice is a residential end-of-life care facility where compassion, connection, and comfort are at the heart of everything we do,” says Janelle Spady, donor relations and event coordinator for the non-profit. “We are committed to providing a peaceful and compassionate end-of-life journey with support for our residents and their loved ones.”

The event takes place on Sunday, June 9, and participants can choose from 1 km, 3 km, and 5 km distance options. Runners and walkers alike will take off from Bower Ponds at 10 a.m., but registration starts at 9 a.m.

“The event isn’t really about speed or who wins the race, it’s an opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one, spend time with family and friends, get out and get moving all while raising money in support of end-of-life care in central Alberta,” Spady says.

Registration closes at noon on Friday, June 7, and the cost is $25, which includes a t-shirt, post-race snacks, and a burger.

The event is one of their larger fundraisers and they hope to raise $50,000 in donations and pledges. There will be prizes for top fundraising teams and individuals.
